This is an excellent video created by the guys at AddictiveHealth.com.

It highlights some of the subtle ways that fast food advertisers make suggestions to us and “persuade” us to eat more of their food. Is the Ronald McDonald clown just a coincidence, or is it marketing genius (or pure evil?) – cleverly thought out to get your kids to eat much more McDonalds than they otherwise would.

$11 billon is spent on food advertising every year compared to only $11m on food nutrition education – is it any wonder there is a global obesity problem?

One of the main tactics which is described is taking a positive objects, images and ideas – like a clown for example (I wonder who uses a clown in their advertising) and connecting it to the food they sell – so the positive emotions you feel when you see clowns gets shared with the food!!

The result? In a study based on kids consumption of fast food the amount they ate doubled when this type of “positive linking” was used.

This video is a must watch for anyone living in our commercialized western society, and a revelation as to what tactics people are using “against” you.

This is one of the most famous examples of subliminal messaging in modern times – McDonalds flashing a subliminal message during the Food Networks Iron Chef show – they were caught and then denied it by saying it was a technical error that was corrected for all future airings.

McDonalds was an Iron Chef sponsor at the time, so why they needed subliminal messages to advertise on it is beyond us.

I don’t see why they denied it, as when watching the video frame by frame the guy found their logo which is plain to see for all of us. Ilay, the guy who caught McDonald’s sending subliminal advertising messages that are their logo shown for only 1/30th of a second put up the video on Youtube and it got over 250 thousand hits in a short amount of time.

What do you think? Did McDonalds mean to influence you while you were thinking about food? Does this mean they have done it before or are still using these underhand techniques, even though they say that they “don’t do subliminal advertising”?

Want more McDonalds subliminal messages? We have them 🙂

Okay, so we wanted to post another McDonalds subliminal to our collection, but to be honest this one is rubbish – don’t hold it against us – we only want to collect all instances of subliminal messages in one place.

Now don’t complain that we didn’t warn you it was a bit lame…

Arguably it vaguely looks like a silhouette of a woman / a stripper / a woman kneeling down… That’s our best guess anyway – sorry its lame, and is it even subliminal? Maybe some kids drew it on somehow?

Anyway if you have any idea what it really is let us know – and if you have any more suspect McDonalds adverts then please send them to us! Or check out our subliminal Mcdonalds adverts collection.
